Newman joined Durham Rotary in 2004 and was recognized in 2007 as "Rotarian of the Year." He and his wife, Ann-Louise, are Paul Harris Fellows and Bequest Society members. With their son Joshua, they have hosted scholars, exchange students and GSE teams.

Charles is also a member of the Paul Harris Society. Charles enjoys time with family, travel, various community activities and photography. He and Sandra are active members of Asheboro's Balfour Baptist Church.

She also established a Twin City partnership with The Rotary Club of Dhanbad, India and was a guest speaker at D3250 District Conference in Orissa, India.

Russell currently works as a Program Manager for the State Energy Office in Raleigh, NC after a 25-year career with Progress Energy.

She is also an alumna of both the Rotary Youth Exchange and Ambassadorial programs in Zurich, Switzerland and Bonn, Germany, respectively.
